Loderick Matthews - Northcrest worship music
The only native Texan on staff, Loderick was born in Dallas and raised in Irving and Rome, Italy. He began his musical education at age 7 when he joined the Irving Boys Choir. At age 10, he received his first guitar. A veteran of club and session work, Loderick initially pursued a music degree with an emphasis on voice and jazz guitar performance. However, he eventually changed his course of study to follow his love of science and earned degrees in molecular biology. When he is not leading worship at Northcrest, he works plays as a Research Associate at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center investigating the immunological basis for skin blistering diseases.
A former Youth and Family Pastor, Loderick has a love for teaching the Bible and uses illustrations drawn from pop culture, his dogs, and day to day life to communicate the timeless lessons found within Gods Word. As one of the teachers at Northcrest, Loderick leads the Sunday morning adult class and co-leads a home group that meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturday nights.
Because the Word of God is living, active and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), it is Loderick's desire to see people connect with the good news of Christ in ways that they never thought imaginable. At Northcrest we connect to that good news through times of corporate celebration of Gods grace and using interactive worship, media and communion.
Loderick's heart, calling, and vision for Northcrest Community Church is corporate participatory worship. When you join us for a worship celebration, you will hear people all around you singing their praises to Our God and King. The church worships using songs that are a mix of beloved hymns and popular modern worship songs. For example, songs composed by Charlie Hall, Chris Tomlin, and David Crowder will be sung right along side songs composed by John Newton, John Wesley, and Robert Lowry. The music at Northcrest is just like the weather in Texas, if you find a song is unfamiliar, give it a minute because it will change to something you probably grew up singing or heard on the radio as you drove over.
Loderick married his college sweetheart and great love of his life, Christine, and together, they have one son, Garrett (10) and one Labrador Retriever, Beaker (also 10).
