Dion was born and raised in Richmond, CA. From the day he was born, he was involved in music ministry at church being involved in children's choirs, singing with his family in church, playing the drums in church, even singing in the adult choir at age 11. It was in church that he began playing the drums also at age 11.
Dion's most important musical influence was his mother, Brenda. She has been singing since the age of 3, directed the church choir from age 18, and continued directing while carrying Dion until birth. Dion's family exposed him to various music styles and artists like Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, and James Brown. But the most important was his mother who trained his musical ear and relied on him while she directed to help in a variety of ways.
Dion later served at and took part in an internship at Family Community Church in San Jose, CA. He served on the worship team and was a core member of the team that helped the church grow as an influential church in the San Jose area. Dion played the drums on the worship team during worship services and played drums and helped engineer the worship teams first two CD's. It was at FCC that Dion grew in his relationship with God and received the call to be a worship leader and a minister. He completed courses to be a licensed minister through Berean Global University.
While at FCC, Dion met his future wife, Heather, and they were married in April 2002. Heather and Dion were led to move to the Dallas area in August of 2003. Dion has worked in Kids' Kingdom since September 2004 as the lead teacher in the school-age program. Dion and Heather been attending Northcrest since August of 2005, along with their 2 children, Catalina and Joycelyn and are now members of the church.
Dion accepted the position as worship leader in February 2007. He looks forward to leading people into the presence of God each week and also enjoys making a joyful noise that pleases God.
One of the most important things to Dion is to lead lifestyles as individuals that please God and to let God's light shine through us. He lives his life following the two greatest commands.Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love your neighbor as yourself.
John 4:23-24 says, R20;Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." As worship leader, he longs to see the day when we all can freely worship God, united as one, in spirit and in truth.
