Northcrest Community Church and Kids' Kingdom Christian Learning Center History

In July of 1993 Pastor Bob and Julie Totino and their two children moved to Flower Mound, Texas to start a church.  As they settled into the area, they began bringing several college missions teams to the area to conduct door to door surveys.  After several months of canvassing, God brought seven families together to begin preparatory work for launching a new church in Flower Mound.  Many of the original families are still active in the church today and others have moved out of the area.  The seven families began to meet in a home for Sunday church service as well as youth meetings on Sunday nights.

In April of 1994, the seven families went public for their first service on Easter of 1994 at Lamar Middle School in Flower Mound, Texas. The average attendance was 28 individuals and the church was launched! As the church steadily grew, they had an opportunity to purchase a 5-acre lot off of South Garden Ridge Blvd., in Flower Mound. The Texas District of the Wesleyan Church in conjunction with the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism, challenged the congregation, now averaging approximately 50 individuals, to raise $20,000 cash in six months.  If they did the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism would match the $20,000 and with a gift of $60,000 from the Texas District, the congregation could put a $100,000 down payment on the property and then make a 2 year payment plan to pay off the remaining balance.  The congregation raised the money and the land was purchased.

The church continued to grow steadily.  Then 1996 their lease in the school expired and they were forced to find another place for worship. They found an empty office space in the upstairs building of the Atrium on Main Street in Flower Mound.  During the next two years, the congregation continued to grow.  As they did, they began preparations to build on their new property.  A planning team was formed in conjunction with a finance team.  The planning team began to design a building that would seat approximately 200 people in an auditorium as well as classroom spaces.  During that time, the finance team began to strategize with how we could raise the necessary funds to build a permanent building on the existing site as well as strengthen our calling the neighborhood.

At this time, God began to put on the heart of the people the idea of having a full time childcare ministry within the church building.  A Childcare Team was formulated and they began preparations to open the childcare at the same time the building was finished.  The childcare center was formally named Kids Kingdom of Northcrest Community Church.

In conjunction with the Childcare Team, the Building Team came up with a plan that would be affordable and still give us the necessary space to meet the needs of the now growing congregation.  The Finance Team, after much research, secured a loan from Wesleyan Investment Foundation, contingent upon the congregation raising a three year pledge of $100,000.  The Finance Team began the preparation of holding a fundraising banquet at Tour 19 in November of 1998.  The congregation at this time was averaging approximately 85 people on Sunday mornings.  The banquet was held and the congregation pledged $103,000 thereby securing the loan necessary to go forward with the construction of the building.

In April of 1999, the church was given 30 days to vacate their current location in the Atrium.  The church secured a place at Forestwood Middle School, and remained at Forestwood Middle School until December of 1999 when they moved into their newly constructed building. The first Northcrest Sunday service was held on December 20th, 1999 and Kids Kingdom opened its doors in January of 2000 with 16 children in enrollment. The word spread and the center finished its first year with 67 children. One of the original families is still with us, today!

In July of 2005 Pastor Bob Totino, who started the church, was called away to another church in the Midwest. The LBA of Northcrest began to seek God's will for a new Pastor and He led them to their current Pastor, Dr. Devon Smith.

In 2006 Kids Kingdom asked Licensing to officially include the sanctuary as a place for our after school program. This added an additional 77 students to our role. Thus raising our enrollment to 179 students and beginning a new era in our ability to reach out to our community to the School age children. Currently, the leadership is in the beginning stages of assessing and recommending a gym to be built to accommodate our growing Childcare center. The goal is to build this gym by 2009. Kids Kingdom continues to be a vital part of the ministry of Northcrest.
